Ibaraki

Home to several of Japan's largest corporations, like Hitachi, Ibaraki is situated on Japan's eastern coast. There are three main areas, Tsukuba Science City, the Kashima Rimkai Industrial Zone, and the Hitachi Naka district.
The capital of the prefecture, Mito, is 65 mins from Tokyo on the Joban line, and 2 hours by car. Attractions include the futuristic Mito Art Tower and Kairakuen park, which lies above Lake Senba.

The venue for World Cup games is Kashima, a new city formed in 1995 and home to Kashima Antlers, the J league's most successful club.  In June there is an ancient Martial Arts performance at Kashima Jingu Shrine, and the local government and Kashima Antlers will cooperate to provide many activities and a warm welcome for visitors in 2002. Given that Kashima is a new town, built in the middle of an industrial area, you may think that it‘s probably not worth spending much time here.
