Niigata
Situated
in the middle of the Japan Sea
coast, Niigata is a port city
serving east Asia and eastern
Russia. It is also Japan's major
rice-producer, and along with
tourism, agriculture is the prime
industry and source of income for
the prefecture.
Access to Niigata from Tokyo is
convenient and fast - 1 hour 40
mins by bullet train. It is also
well-linked to Korea, with air
services from Seoul and boats from
Pusan. The weather is slightly
cooler than in Tokyo and southern
Japan, with temperatures in June
in the mid 20'sC, and with the
rainy season reaching its peak
here in July, it will be drier
than several other venues.
