Saitama

Saitama is home to the J League's Urawa Reds and is located 45 minutes north of Tokyo. Until recently one of the less fashionable prefectures, Saitama has, over the last 10 years, developed into a lively and modern area, epitomized by the merging of three towns, cities - Urawa, Omiya and Yono - around a newly constructed centre served by Saitama Shintoshin station.

Urawa is the main location for entertainment, although Omiya also has some decent bars, restaurants and shops. In terms of sightseeing, the John Lennon museum (near Saitama Shintoshin station) is worth a visit, as is Ko-Edo (Little Tokyo) in nearby Kawagoe. As well the newly constructed football stadium, Saitama also has a 35,000 capacity indoor stadium and concert venue which is likely to be hosting some events during the tournament
