Sapporo
Sapporo
is the largest city of Hokkaido,
the northernmost main island of
Japan. With a metropolitan
population of almost two million,
Sapporo ranks as fifth largest
city of Japan.
Although
a major industrial production
centre, Shizuoka is best known as
the location of Japan's most
recognizable symbol, Mount Fuji.
Situated along Japan's Pacific
coast just over an hour from Tokyo
by bullet train, Shizuoka has a
long football history. It is home
to two successful J league teams,
Jubilo Iwata and Shimizu S-Pulse,
managed by Steve Perryman until
early 2001. As an indication of
the prefectures contribution to
Japanese football, nearly one
fifth of the J Leagues players in
2000 come from Shizuoka.
Shizuoka City offers a good range
of restaurants, shops, bars and
pubs, as well several large
hotels.
Sapporo
is famous for its snow festival
which takes place every February.
The Olympic winter games were held
in the city in the year 1972.
