YOKOHAMA

A modern, port city less than an hour south-west of Tokyo, Yokohama is the venue for the World Cup Final on 30th June. It has a more relaxed atmosphere than the capital - as the main gateway through which Japan was opened to the west, it has traditionally been open to outside influence, and this is reflected in city's layout and architecture.
The main entertainment and shopping areas are in the Motomachi and Kannai districts. These offer a variety of restaurants, bars and shops, including the main department stores. There is a substantial Chinatown with many excellent restaurants, and the arc-shaped Landmark Plaza for more shopping and eating. Other places of interest and entertainment include Yamashita Park, Yokohama Zoo, and the area near Sakuragicho station, the Minato Mirai 21 development, which houses a growing number of shops, restaurants and tourist attractions, including Yokohama Golf Dome and Rimko Park.
Yokohama's history and the nearby US Naval base at Yokosuka have contributed to the spread of English, and visitors will have less difficulty with communication than in several other venues.
